ABOUT US
Be an effective mechanism for freight stakeholders to undertake high impact R&D that boosts the resilience of our freight companies and sector using new technologies and data.
Drive the transition to an integrated, efficient and sustainable freight network in Australia that supports our businesses and communities to thrive.
What is Future Freight CRC?
Future Freight Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) is a national R&D centre that works with industry, government and research partners to deliver high impact collaborative projects that benefit individual organisations and boost the sector.
The concept of a Future Freight CRC has been developing over a few years as we have seen the potential for collaborations to shift thinking and implement new technologies in the sector growing.
The Centre will generate evidence-based knowledge and innovative solutions that build resilience, accelerate decarbonisation, and enhance efficiency of multimodal movement of goods by road, rail, sea and air.
What are CRCs?
Cooperative Research Centres belong to a well-established federally funded initiative to address challenges and drive innovation in a nominated sector over the medium to long term. Each CRC is run independently and focuses on its own partners’ and sector challenges, whilst benefiting from investment and support from the federal government CRC Program.
It is an ideal model to tackle current freight challenges in Australia:

FFCRC keeps track of and reports regularly on partner contributions, project commitments and payments. Partners have total visibility always on their contributions and project spend.

Bid timeline
Compelling CRC bids require sufficient lead time to construct. This enables us to work closely with partners to fully understand their needs and incorporate them into the proposal we develop.
There are two stages to the bid process as outlined below. Stage 1 involves the submission of a compelling bid to the Dept of Industry, Science and Resources. If successful we then progress to stage 2 which involves a comprehensive interview.
We expect the process to follow the approximate timeline below, assuming the usual pattern of funding rounds by the Commonwealth Government.
