Why the case for FFCRC continues to grow, and staying engaged now matters

We understand that for many organisations, attention is rightly focused on responding to current pressures. Businesses and government are dealing with immediate challenges, and in times like these, it can be difficult to look beyond the demands of the present.

But the current disruption also highlights something important: the need to strengthen Australia’s freight system has not gone away. In fact, it has become even stronger. The pressures we are seeing now reinforce why industry and government need to work together to build a freight network that is more productive, more resilient and better prepared for future shocks.

To support these objectives, Future Freight CRC is being designed as a practical, industry-led collaboration that can respond to partner needs over time. The CRC model is flexible. It is built to evolve as priorities shift, and to support research, testing and innovation that matter to the organisations involved.

In practical terms for our partners, this is not about locking into a rigid program now. At this stage, it is about signalling support for a shared national effort and helping shape what comes next.

Importantly, there is no formal commitment required at this point, and no funding contribution until 2027. Flagging involvement in the bid now is a relatively low-effort step, but an important one. It keeps the opportunity open and helps build the case for a centre that can support the freight sector over a ten-year period with government backing.

For many organisations, the challenge right now is balancing immediate operational needs with medium and longer-term priorities. Responding to today’s issues is essential, but so is preparing for what comes after them.

This is a valuable one-time-only window of opportunity. By staying engaged and keeping bid momentum going with us, partners can help ensure the sector is not only responding to disruption, but also investing in a stronger future.

Please reach out if you need help, or if you are not yet involved and would like to be.
